Dual Immersion Mandarin Chinese
Cleveland currently offers Mandarin Chinese language classes and content courses taught in Mandarin Chinese. This specialized four-year program focuses on increasing students’ Mandarin language proficiency toward an Advanced level while developing a higher level of multicultural understanding.
Current Harrison Park Middle School Mandarin Immersion Program Students
Students in the Mandarin Immersion Program cohort at Harrison Park Middle School are automatically assigned to Cleveland, and they do not need to complete the School Choice form. However, these students will be required to take the STAMP (STAndards-based Measure of Proficiency) at Harrison Park, which will be scheduled by their teacher.
Applicants not enrolled in the Harrison Park Middle School Mandarin Immersion Program
We would love to have you join our Mandarin Immersion Program at Cleveland!
Our primary goal is to ensure our students are placed at the right level where they can feel confident and successful as they transition into high school. To determine if the Freshman Immersion class is the right fit, we would like to schedule a proficiency assessment with our teacher Nancy Yang at nyang@pps.net. This will include a brief conversation and a look at your child's speaking, reading and writing skills. Based on the results, we can decide if your child is ready for the immersion program. We would love to have you enroll in the program!
Depending on space availability, Cleveland may be able to accept applicants who are not currently enrolled as part of the Mandarin Immersion Program cohort at Harrison Park. These applicants will be required to do the following by the end of February (date to be determined):
1. Complete and submit a School Choice application form.
2. Schedule a proficiency interview with Nancy Yang, Cleveland Mandarin Immersion Program teacher, at nyang@pps.net or call 503-916-5120, ext. 75049.
3. Take the STAndards-based Measurement of Proficiency (STAMP) test (minimum score of 4). If you have taken the STAMP previously, please submit your score to Ms. Yang.
